China's plastic industry

According to a recent report by the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, China's plastic industry achieved steady growth in the first quarter of 2023. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and rising raw material prices, the industry's total output value increased by 14.5% year-on-year, reaching 1.6 trillion yuan ($248 billion). The report also highlighted that plastic products for medical use, such as syringes and face shields, saw a significant increase in demand due to the ongoing pandemic.
